Required skills and qualifications

The primary responsibilities of a cannabis sales representative include:

  • Build client relationships: You must develop and maintain strong professional relationships with new and existing cannabis retailers within a designated territory.
  • Generate sales: The main goal is to identify new business opportunities and close deals to meet or exceed sales targets. This involves prospecting, cold-calling, and conducting in-person meetings.
  • Educate clients: A key part of the job is educating clients and their staff (often called “budtenders”) on the benefits, features, and proper usage of cannabis products.
  • Ensure compliance: Sales activities must strictly adhere to rapidly changing state and local cannabis regulations. This includes handling regulatory paperwork correctly and staying informed on legal changes.
